The Easiest Heart Pastries for Love Month

Celebrate Love with these easy and delicious strawberry puff pastry treats!

I am a language teacher who LOVES incorporating simple and unique recipes into my lessons.  I will be making these treats for my students in February to accompany our hands-on and engaging lessons and crafts.

Make sure to check-out my Valentine's language-based activities on my TPT Shop

What Tools & Materials will you need?
  • Parchment paper
  • a rolling pin
  • 2 heart-shaped cookie cutters (1 large & 1 small)
  • 1 roll of store-bought puff pastry dough
  • 1 egg and whisk
  • 1 painting brush
  • 1 jar of strawberry or raspberry jam or preserves
  • a pastry bag (optional)
  • powdered sugar (optional)
How to make the heart pastries?

Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees F and line the baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the puff pastry dough on a lightly floured surface. I like to cover a cutting board with parchment paper first.

Cut-out an even number of heart shapes using your large heart cookie cutter.

Using a smaller cutter, cut the center out of half of the hearts, creating frames.

You can now either spoon about 1 teaspoon of strawberry or raspberry jam into the center of each large heart. I personally like to put the jam into a pastry bag and squeeze a small amount onto the center of each heart.

Now place your large hearts onto the parchment-lined baking sheet. Lightly brush the edges with water and top each with one heart frame. Press the frame on and shape it into a beautiful heart. (You may need fill the center with a tiny bit more jam or move it around with a spoon.)

Next, brush ONLY the pastry (not the jam) with the beaten egg wash.

Bake for 15-18 minutes on 400 degrees F or until puffed and golden.

Next, you will want to allow them to cool slightly and if you want to, you can sprinkle some powdered sugar over them using a sifter.

Enjoy for a perfect Valentine's day dessert, breakfast or treat! If you loved this recipe, consider following my IG @multilingualatheart for more creative, hands-on fun.
