Buenos días, Buenas noches
This Spanish lesson for young learners will help you to instill the proper greetings to use at the various times of day in Spanish in your students in a really fun and engaging way. To begin, start out on the carpet and have a circle time routine with your students. Start out by singing your normal greeting songs and introduce the students to some motions to use for the three main greetings we are focusing on; buenos días, buenas tardes, and buenas noches. I like to use real sign language, but you can create your own motions as well. Next, introduce "Buenos días" song! It goes well to the tune of "Frère Jacques."
Incorporating visuals and concrete objects into the lesson is key to help the students to acquire the content of your lesson. Next, I show my students the visual aids which are the flash cards. Now, they have a visual in their head that matches the word or phrase that I am teaching them. Then I pull out the beloved "caja misteriosa", the mystery box...
In the mystery box are a set of picture cards. These cards show the students all different situations (morning/day/night.) The students get to reach in and choose a picture card and they have to decide whether to use the expression "buenos días, buenas tardes, or buenas noches."
After that, I ask the students to turn their bodies to the Interactive Whiteboard and I turn the lights off and show them the digital story.
Next, I tell them that they are going to get to make their own bedtime storybook in Spanish that they can take home and read to someone. At this point they move over to the tables where the 8 x 8 coloring books set out for them along with crayons. We review the colors in Spanish and the expressions one more time, and they work on their coloring book. I like to go around and practice the vocabulary with them individually at this point.
